The construction industry plays a vital role in Florida’s economy. Do you want a piece of the action? To perform construction in the state of Florida, you must first pass the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB)’s construction contractor exam. This exam requires a lot of preparation as the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation deems a passing score no less than 70 percent. The two-day test takes place six times per year in three locations throughout the state.
This year’s Florida Division I construction contractor exam dates and locations:
- February 16-17 in Tallahassee, Orlando and Miami
- April 12-13 in Tallahassee, Kissimmee and Miami
- June 14-15 in Tallahassee, Orlando and Miami
- August 16-17 in Tallahassee, Kissimmee and Miami
- October 11-12 in Tallahassee, Kissimmee and Miami
- December 6-7 in Tallahassee, Kissimmee and Miami
Though you can bring your reference materials with you into the exam, you will have a limited amount of time – exactly 6.5 hours – to complete it. It’s important to prepare prior to taking the exam because…
FAILING ISN’T FUN
While you can retake the exam, you’ll have to wait 21 days before attempting it again. This severely backlogs your business’s succession. And because it costs a total of $215 in development, application and administration fees, you’ll only want to take it once. Plus, you must pass all aspects of the exam within a four-year period.
AND THE EXAM IS JUST ONE PART OF GETTING YOUR LICENSE…
Did you know the state of Florida rejects 90 percent of the construction license applications it receives the first time? There are a lot of details factored into getting your Florida construction contractor license, and one small mistake could cost you time and money, or ultimately your license.
