NASCLA – ADMINISTERING STATES VS. ACCEPTING STATES

NASCLA (National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies) is a non-profit corporation that enacts laws to regulate the construction industry. Members of the NASCLA association include: state/local licensing agencies, construction firms, trade associations, and other types of organizations that are involved in the field of construction. To date, there are fourteen areas that participate in NASCLA. For their accredited examination, the fourteen participating states either accept the exam oradminister it. Please see below for a list of the administering states vs. the accepting states:

State Agencies that Administer* the NASCLA exam:

  • Alabama
  • Georgia
  • Mississippi
  • South Carolina
  • Virgin Islands

*When taking a trade exam in any of the above listed states, you are actually taking the NASCLA accredited examination.

  • Arkansas
  • Georgia
  • Louisiana
  • Mississippi
  • Nevada
  • North Carolina
  • Oregon
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Utah
  • Virgin Islands
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia

**If you have taken and passed the NASCLA exam (either through PSI or an administering state), your trade exam will be waived in any of the above listed states. You will still need to take a business and law in these states, except in Arkansas.
