Stay Prepared on the Job with a First Aid Kit

As a contractor, you will work in a lot of hazardous environments due to different weather, tools, equipment, heights, and more. The job can be dangerous, and even if you don’t experience danger all the time, it’s good to always be prepared for the dangers.

It’s important that you, your boss, or someone on your job site/team has a first aid kit. Accidents happen and they can happen at any time, so it’s best to have a kit around to help if needed.

So, what should be in a contractor’s first aid kit?

  • Sterile wipe to help clean cuts or wounds to prevent infection from any possible bacteria.
  • Gauze pads to put on any injuries. You want pads in a few different sizes to be able to cover different size wounds. Roller bandages are good to have too.
  • Regular Band-Aids
  • A saline solution to flush out wounds or chemicals/debris in the eyes.
  • Disposable gloves. The gloves can be used when you are treating someone else’s injury to keep you from touching their blood and to protect them from any bacteria you have on your person.
  • Tweezers. The tweezers can help you pluck out debris from a person’s wound.
  • Scissors. They can be used to cut bandages or tear clothing.
  • Triangular bandages to wrap sprained ankles, broken bones, or a head injury.
  • Bacitracin. This is an over-the-counter antibiotic that can help prevent infection in minor cuts, burns, and scrapes.
  • Bandage tape to help gauze stay on.

This is just a sample of what can be in a first-aid kit. There’s a lot more you can add, as well.
