General Contractor Vs. Specialty Contractor

There is a difference between a general contractor and a specialty contractor.

A general contractor oversees a project and there’s two types of general contractors: general engineering contractors and general building contractors. A general engineering contractor has a Class A license and has specialized knowledge and skills in many industries. General building contractors have a Class B license and have a more focused single specialization. Both types of general contractors overlook projects. A Class A license usually oversees large projects like a bridge or road and a Class B license is usually in charge of an individual construction projects.
A specialty contractor has a special set of skills under a specific niche, and they hold a Class C license. They are hired for specific tasks and their work is more restricted, but they are valuable on a job site for their specialized skills and knowledge.

As you can see, each type of contractor has their roll and are important to a project. They work together to get a project completed.

Which type of contractor should you be? It depends on your interests and comfort. If you like big projects and manage people, you may prefer to be a general contractor. If you like certain niches, you may prefer a specialty contracting job.
