Working hard is admirable, but it’s also admirable to take time off. Time off work helps you decompress from your work and come back feeling refreshed. Taking time off and separating yourself from the work can help you become more productive and produce higher quality work.  

As humans, we can only take on so much, and contracting jobs can be both physically and mentally demanding. You want to allow your mind and body to rest and recover, so you can get back into the work. If you don’t properly rest, you could develop injuries and/or become overly stressed. Don’t work to the point of burnout. You will resent your job and dread working every day.  

As a contractor, many times, you have flexibility in creating your own schedule and hours, which can better suit your needs. You can build time off for when you need it and how it works best for you. In your time off, you can focus on you, your family, your friends, your recovery, your mental health, and your interests. 

If you’ve worked many weeks or months without a break, and you’re physically and mentally drained, it’s time to take a break. 
 

Taking breaks allows you to maintain a healthy work/life balance. If you’re finding it hard to balance this, speak to a supervisor or counselor or life coach and express that you need to find ways to better balance your life. 
 

The more balance you create, the more productive you will be at work.
