HOW DO I SIGN-UP FOR THE NASCLA EXAM?

In NASCLA’s (the National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies) September 2016 press release, the company announced that they are implementing a new pre-application requirement for the NASCLA Commercial General Building Contractor exam, which will become effective on November 1st, 2016. This new requirement will not apply to individuals that are taking the exam in an administering state. (For the difference between administering and accepting states, see our blog here.)
Essentially, NASCLA has decided that they will no longer allow candidates to sign-up directly through PSI. First, the candidate will have to undergo a pre-approval process by submitting an application and $25 fee through NASCLA’s NED (National Examination Database) website. That website can be found by clicking here. Once the application has been approved, NASCLA will forward the candidates information to PSI (the company that proctors the exam). Then, PSI will provide you instructions via email on how to register to take the exam. If for some reason your application has been denied, NASCLA will contact you via email.
A couple key points to remember after you have been approved:
• You only have one year to sit for the NASCLA exam
• You may take the exam a maximum of three times within the one-year eligibility period
• If you fail the exam three times, you must submit a new application through the NED website as well as a new $25 application fee after your one-year eligibility is up.
