We are two months into 2019 – already?? Wow, time is flying. With that said, we wanted to share with you some construction industry trends that are predicted to occur in the new year. Some great advancements are expected.
- Augmented realty will be used more and more – this is where you can see a construction site/project through a camera. It’ll help contractors plan.
- More construction software will be offered.
- Building Information Modeling (BIM) will be used more to help design, manage, and develop projects. This will bring more accuracy to the construction building process.
- Modular construction will be used more as it speeds up projects 65 times faster.
- More self-healing concrete will be used.
- More drones will be used. Drones help contractors save time. They can survey a site in minutes instead of weeks or months. In the next decade, drones will be a $10 billion dollar industry.
- More robotics will be used for different tasks. Robotics are expected to grow 175% in the next decade.
- More cloud technology and mobile technology will be used. You can easily store, track, and share information on a cloud-based system and have access to it at your fingertips.
- GPS will be used in more ways to collect data. With GPS technology, it can be easier to find stolen equipment, collect data, surveying sites, and track vehicles.
- Smart-technology that workers wear will show up at more work sites. Smart watches, or #D glasses can help speed up work or make workplaces safer as workers can better communicate with each other without taking their eyes off the job.
These are a lot of great and exciting things to look forward to in the construction industry this year. We look forward to seeing how it works out!
