Overall, the industry is growing. Also, robotics and new technology do not threaten the jobs of workers in the construction industry. Workers are now needed to operate this technology so projects can be done faster and more efficiently.
Salaries are increasing – Construction salaries are rising and predicted to continue in the future. In 2018, staff wages were expected to rise by 3.4%. Construction managers, on average, can make $95,000 per year and for those managers who work in large companies or in a large city, you can make up to $150,000 per year. Some of the highest paid contractors (without a four-year college degree) are: elevator installers and repairers, electricians, plumbers, roofers, boilermakers, construction equipment operators.
Tech usage is increasing: Technology is now a necessity on job sites and workers are learning more skills. Workers get more opportunities than ever o work with advanced technology from document management systems to drones.
Workforce is evolving: With more technology and opportunities the construction industry has more women and minorities than ever. Leaders in the industry are working hard to create a more balanced, and diverse workplace. The industry is also getting younger as many Boomers are retiring and Millennials are filling in their roles.
Higher worker satisfaction: Construction jobs are usually active and more engaging than a 9 to 5 cubicle job. It’s highly satisfying for workers to see their work be put into motion or turn into massive structures.
