There are many reasons to become a licensed contractor. For one, clients will trust you more and be more willing to work with you. Second, it’s illegal to work in the state of Florida without a contractor’s license. The exams, experience, and application process are worth it to get that license. Otherwise, you could end up in a bad situation.  

In Florida, unlicensed activity is a criminal offense. The information below comes directly from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).

You must make sure the work you are doing is legal and proper if you don’t have a license. There is some contracting work out there that doesn’t require a license, but you need to check and make sure before starting the work, or else you will be in trouble with the state of Florida and the DBPR.

By using these tools, people can report unlicensed activity on-the-go, which makes it easier than ever for people to report suspected illegal work to the state.  Unlicensed work can bring a lot of unfinished work, lawsuits, and other problems into contractors and clients’ lives, so it’s best to keep unlicensed workers from conducting illegal work and taking jobs away from licensed contractors.
