Our team at Licenses, Etc. wanted to let our clients and friends know that if you are a residential basic, residential light commercial or general contractor in Georgia, your license needed to be renewed by June 30, 2020. If you did not renew by the 30th, you are now past due, and a late fee will be imposed to bring the expired license back into compliance.
The law in Georgia prohibits residential and general contractors from conducting unlicensed practice, such as practicing with an expired license, in the state. You can renew your license on the Professional Licensing Board’s website before June 30.
Thee State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors are taking into consideration the seriousness of the COVID-19 crisis and will allow licensees a variance to satisfy the continuing education requirements under Board rules by completion of live webinars, Zoom meeting/training courses, and live online courses for fulfillment of the continuing education requirement for the June 30, 2020 renewal.
There is a late renewal fee of $200 for renewal applications submitted between July 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020. During this extended renewal period, a builder’s license is considered lapsed and not valid. After December 31, all licenses that have not been renewed will be treated as revoked. At that point, reinstatement of the license is at the discretion of the board, which could require the submission of a new application and/or the re-taking of the licensing examination.
To renew your Georgia residential or general contractor professional license, visit the Professional Licensing Board’s website to complete the process. The site offers step-by-step instructions to help with renewal. Once payment has been submitted and the renewal has been verified, a person can print his or her receipt and professional license. If you have been selected for an audit, you will have to submit continuing education documents.
