What is a gas line contractor?  

By definition, a gas line specialty contractor “is a contractor whose scope of work is limited to installation, modification, alteration, testing, repair and maintenance of natural gas transmission systems and natural gas distribution systems with all appurtenances within rights-of-way, easements, or terminating at meter.” 

Working with natural gas is a serious profession that requires specialized training and certification. Here are the requirements for this license: 

  • Four years of experience. This can be reduced by up to 3 years with college credits. 
  • At least one year out of the four years of experience must have been as a foreman. 
  • Experience from this employment period must demonstrate substantial compliance installing, modifying and altering: 
  • Natural Gas Transmission Systems 
  • Natural Gas Distribution Systems
